The Business Curriculum

This subject equips you with the skills and confidence to explore how different business situations affect business decisions. It is a well-rounded introduction to the subject. Becoming knowledgeable about how businesses operate helps increase your competitiveness in the job market and to understand how businesses and governments drive our world economies.  You are encouraged to make informed choices about a wide range of further learning opportunities and career pathways as well as develop life skills that enable you to become financially and commercially aware.

Key Stage 4

We offer OCR GCSE Business:

This exciting qualification has been modelled on the previous generation of business studies GCSEs but contains new business contexts which consider issues and challenges facing entrepreneurs and commercial organisations in the 21st century. You will be given the opportunity to explore the principles of business and in addition, meet local and national business leaders and experience first-hand how successful businesses operate.  The GCSE is an excellent stepping stone to further study at A level and beyond. 

ASSESSMENT:

Internal Assessment:

Students are regularly assessed. Formative and summative assessment takes place throughout the year, as well as pre-public exams (PPEs). This ensure you are making excellent progress on your business GCSE course. 

External Assessment: 

Both external exams are written based. They include the following:  Exam 1: Business activity, marketing and people –50% of GCSE (1 hour 30 minutes).  Exam 2: Operations, finance and influences –50% of GCSE (1 hour 30 minutes).
