The Curriculum Academic Curriculum We provide an innovative, exciting and inspiring learning experience for our students. Our knowledge-rich curriculum has been carefully designed to ensure students have both breadth and depth to their learning, preparing them well for further and higher education. To ensure that each student discovers their talents we offer an academic curriculum and creative and sporting opportunities appropriate for every child regardless of their specific needs and challenges. In Key Stage 3 all students study English, Mathematics, Science, Geography, History, a Modern Foreign Language, Music, Drama, RE, Art, ICT, Creative Design, PE and Character & Culture. In Key Stage 4 all students continue to study English Language and English Literature (two separate GCSEs), Mathematics and Science (either Combined Science or Triple Science). They then complete their remaining subject allocations from a range of other courses, some of which may include the traditional subjects they have studied throughout KS3, and some of which may be new. We encourage as many students as possible to study the English Baccalaureate (English, Mathematics, Science, one Modern Foreign Language, History or Geography) and particularly those students who may wish to go to university or continue to study after they turn 18. At Marshland, we believe that every student should have the opportunity to discover their passions and talents through a diverse and explorative curriculum. 0 6

Personal Development We ensure our students are prepared to engage in our wider society in the twenty-first century. Each school day begins with a rich tutor programme, which embeds both the school’s core values and British values. The tutor programme also aims to provide students with a cultural education and to support their wellbeing. This includes a career focussed education, preparing students with the necessary skills to excel in their future careers. Students also study Skills for Life, which is a thought-provoking Personal, Social Health and Education (PHSE) programme. This provides students with the skills to make the correct choices and to lead positive, confident, and independent lives. Assemblies are held each week to allow us to celebrate and discuss a range of current events and topical issues to develop our sense of community in school, which is a source of pride for us at Marshland. “The school’s curriculum has been carefully considered and implemented. Subject specialists deliver content effectively. They explain concepts carefully and provide opportunities for pupils to revisit prior learning though retrieval activities” O F S T E D 0 7

Extra Curricular Activities There is a range of activities and clubs available during and after school to enrich student experiences and support a greater love of learning, such as the science experiment club and musical opportunities, sporting clubs ranging from hockey to basketball, and our Mathematics Escape Room Challenge. There is also a wealth of after school support provision to allow students to maintain our high expectations in homework, revision and progress. We also value the opportunity for students to participate in individual enrichment activities, such as a variety of trips to support learning, our National Theatre New Views programme, the RAF STEM Challenge, and Cambridge University’s Insight Discover programme. Alongside providing a diverse and engaging curriculum, it is of great importance at Marshland to provide learning and personal development opportunities outside of the classroom to all students. 0 9

1 5 “Thank you for challenging me to think further, work harder and dream bigger. Without you all as my support, I wouldn’t have been able to achieve what I have thus far. I don’t think people say thank you to teachers often enough. Thank you, thank you, thank you, for the doors you have opened for me, and thank you for imparting the ability to find and open more doors by myself. Thank you for creating an environment of enthusiasm for learning, appreciation for growing, and room for making mistakes along the way. I am grateful to have you all as a role model. You are not only teachers, you are our authority and guide, all rolled into one person. I will always be grateful to you for your support and kindness.” S T U D E N T 1 “Thank you for all the opportunities you have given me at Marshland. I wanted to disclose to you my gratitude for making me Head boy of Marshland. Marshland was always kind to me, and that includes students and teachers, and I will dearly miss it. I hope my role will not be forgotten and I made a positive impact within our school.” S T U D E N T 2
